Preparing Audio Files for Submission to Project Elroy
My job as a mixing engineer is to piece audio tracks together into a two channel stereo audio file that’s ready to be sent to a mastering engineer (if I’m not mastering your work for you). To make sure the process of transferring your music to me is a smooth one, please follow the guidelines below when submitting an audio project to me:
1.) I don’t accept DAW (Pro-Tools, SONAR, Cubase, etc.) session files, so make sure that you consolidate the audio from your DAW of choice and also see to it that start of each file is at “0” so that they will be properly aligned for me. Please export them as WAV files if possible. If you have any questions here, drop me a line.
2.) Do not apply any sort of audio effects (Reverb, obscene amounts of compression, delays made in DAW, ETC.). After all, adding creative processing to tracks is what you’re paying me for right?
I want your files to be as raw as possible. However, if you’re dead-set on a certain effect, please let me know or send me an example (rough tracks would be perfect).
3.) Please export these (mono for acoustic instruments, synths can be stereo) audio files in the sample/bit rate that they were recorded in. Submit the files in WAV form (no Mp3’s!).
4.) Name the files as accurately as possible. If it’s obscure, the more detailed the description the better.
5.) If I’m doing multiple songs for you, please have a folder for each song with the song’s audio files in the folder. Create a project folder and put the song folders inside and create a .zip file. Please let me know if you don’t know what this is.
6.) Please use a service like DropBox (my preference) or YouSendIt when sending me the files. If the files are too big for those sites (usually over 2gigs) please let me know and I’ll send you instructions for an alternative method. If you’re web savvy and have your own hosting, that will work for me as well.
